I'm a words girl, and I'm for hire!
Hey there! I'm Melissa.
Lover of all things that accessorise, books, my three children and writing—specifically copy that helps businesses navigate their voice within an ever-changing marketplace. Oh, and travel! But that doesn't come unless I write, so, fortunately, I love both.
I started out in marketing way back in 2003 when Blockbuster was still a store rather than a lights out documentary by its successor Netflix. (Insert—*sigh*—the sound you make when you realise you should have taken the deal.) Fresh-faced and straight out of University with a Bachelor of Business (Marketing) degree in hand, the years ahead set me up for the experience I have as a copywriter today.
Most people understand that copywriters sell words (and not the exclusive and assignable legal right to particular material). But for me, it's more than that—it's my ability to curate. To place words that can wield and manifest both ideas and feelings. Feelings that captivate and connect your business through the trade of emotions, helping you market more effectively.
A carefully curated piece of content has the power to transition your product or service from one that is merely hovering on the radar to something a consumer has to have—and not just any product or service, but your particular product or service.
That right there is why you should have hired me yesterday. With my creative ideas and crisp copy, I can turn your brief into captivating brand stories that initiate screen clicks, thumb scrolls, and the like, with ultimately—solid conversions.
Why is my approach successful? Working with words is one thing. But ultimately, it's the foundation, the hours of solid research I put behind each of my projects. To ensure that your brand story is targeted to your distinct audience within the right channel at the right time with the right outcome—again, giving you solid conversions!
I've been a freelance copywriter for the past two years and currently run The Clever Pen, based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The flexibility of virtual work means that I have been able to work with clients across the country in various industries.
Aside from my Business Degree, I also have a Post Graduate Bachelor Degree in Teaching and have worked passionately in both fields. I am course certified in both Copywriting and SEO Copywriting.
Go ahead, hit the button. I'm ready! Are you?
So, who exactly is Melissa Chapman? Here are 3 snippets to get you curious.
I'm sure that after you hire me, you'll discover that I am precisely the copywriter you have been anticipating.
A girl and her wanderlust, that’s me.
Aside from writing, I live to travel, to explore the world in all its quarters. Travelling the world broadens your mind in so many ways. The words we speak day in, and day out, come from our encounters with new experiences. My many suede-covered journals hold snippets of these experiences, from time spent canoeing under Phang Nga Bay's sea caves in Thailand to drilling holes in one of the many frozen lakes Vikajärvi, Finland, has to offer. These authentic experiences have inspired my blog, A Girl and her Wanderlust.
Remarkably, diversity is the key to creativity.
I am multicultural, literally, in every sense of the word. My maternal heritage stems from Italy and India. Conversely, my paternal origin stems from Germany. My children are first-generation Australians. And of that, I am proud.
My life experience makes me who I am, and because of this, I have an innate ability to connect with people. A natural desire to learn about people and understand and relate to them: before I commit to creating your story, I take the time to learn about you, your business and your target market.
I write with that in mind. Everything I write. I write to get a result. Sure, a well-designed website will attract people, but the content is what keeps them there.
I have cheerleaders. Awesome, hey?
I am a mother of three and a wife of one. I have a husband who fancies himself as a golf enthusiast. A teen whose passion is to game twenty-four-seven, an artistic tween who is desperate to be a teen and a soccer-mad roller-skating little boy who loves chasing their shadows. Then, over your left are these two, our alternate-eyed Siberian Huskies, Mila and Milo. Who combined may or may not have pulled on their lead as if they were in a Finnish dog sled race, causing my derriére to follow as though it were a sled in a harness along a strip of freshly mowed, wet grass. There were no witnesses, so we'll leave it at that.
